New 2016 Buick Enclave

2016 Buick Enclave Overview

  • Updates for 2016 include new 4G LTE connectivity and a Tuscan Edition
  • Midsize crossover, seats seven or eight passengers
  • Five-star overall crash test rating from the NHTSA
The 2016 Buick Enclave is a three-row near luxury crossover that offers a long list of standard features, including Wi-Fi hot spot capability which debuts on the Enclave this year.

Wi-Fi is offered as a part of GM’s OnStar communications suite and is powered by a 4G LTE connection, which allows the Enclave to provide Wi-Fi for passengers who are using tablets or laptop computers in the vehicle. A 3-month/3 GB trial is free with the purchase of a new Enclave, and more data is available via subscription after that.

Peeking under the skin, the Enclave shares its architecture with a couple of its other GM siblings, the Chevrolet Traverse and the GMC Acadia, but won’t be mistaken for either on the road. It is the most luxurious of the trio by far, designed to compete with the luxury segment and SUVs like the Acura MDX. The outside of the Enclave is athletic and fits the Buick aesthetic; signature Buick cues like the portholes on the hood and the waterfall grille remain, while added chrome and LEDs give the Enclave a more premium appearance. A power liftgate is standard for added convenience. For 2016, a new “Tuscan Edition” of the Enclave is also available which gets a bronze grille and unique 20-inch wheels.

The Enclave features a 288-hp, 3.6-liter V-6 making 270 pounds-feet of torque that is mated to a six-speed automatic. Front-wheel drive is standard with all-wheel drive as an option for those who will be driving in poor weather. Fuel economy figures check in at an estimated 17/24 mpg city/highway with FWD and 16/22 mpg city/highway if AWD is equipped.

Inside, second-row captain’s chairs are standard, but a second-row bench is also offered which expands the Enclave’s capacity to eight passengers. Tri-zone automatic climate control, Bluetooth connectivity, USB/iPod port, remote vehicle start, and powered front seats are standard. Options include a navigation system, leather upholstery, heated front seats, and a rear-seat entertainment system. The Enclave is offered in three trim levels: Convenience, Leather, and Premium.

Buick vehicles have performed very well in crash a test over the last several years and the Enclave is no exception, earning a full five-star overall rating from the NHTSA.  An electronic stability system, traction control, a rearview camera, rear parking sensors, and a theft-deterrent system all come standard. A blind spot warning system with rear cross traffic alerts is optional.
